This month our usually smart and in control practice manager Donna took on Tough Mudder to raise money for Macmillan.
Originally she had signed up as a personal challenge with a friend but joined Team Macmillan due to a cancer diagnosis in her family.
Tough Mudder is a 10-12 mile-long obstacle course designed by the special forces to test your all around strength, stamina, mental grit, and camaraderie.
She faced sprinting through a field of live wires, plunging into sub-zero ice pits and crawling through semi-submerged tunnels and barbwire. It was going to be a seriously difficult challenge.
Macmillan provide practical, medical and financial support and push for better cancer care. Unfortunately the odds are that one in three of us will get cancer and it's the toughest thing most of us will ever face.
Donna's father-in-law was diagnosed with throat cancer last December. During the early part of this year he had intensive radiotherapy treatment every day for 4 weeks (although they did give him a break at the weekends).
If you've been diagnosed with cancer, or a loved one has, you'll want a team of people in your corner supporting you every step of the way. Donna can't praise enough the support provided by Macmillan and it was this experience that prompted her to fundraise for them.
After completing the challenge here is what she had to say:
"I'm certainly feeling some aches and pains today but I'm not complaining as I loved every minute of it and the camaraderie was brilliant. Everyone was there to help you, the adrenaline certainly helped but it was a total team effort and quite overwhelming to be honest.
The bottle of cider at the end was needed especially as the last obstacle was the Electroshock Therapy! Unfortunately I don't have a photo of that as you can't stop to hang around when you're running through 10,000 volts of electricity!!
All of us at Bramleys are very proud of Donna. Congratulations on raising over £1000.
